I’m switching back over to Southern Food after my breakfast binge and was recommended Aunt Kizzy’s back porch by my coworker Kirk. Aunt Kizzy’s sits in a out of the way corner in a plaza in Marina Del Rey and I had to hunt around a bit for it. Once you find it and walk in, though, it’s like you’re in an entirely different place. There’s a wall filled with photos and an actual back porch on one end of the dining room.

Cornbread muffins! Baked to an almost crunchy perfection on the outside. warm and soft on the inside, this place is not for the faint of heart and I’d recommend using the butter liberally for maximum damage.

We had to order some fried okra, this was just okay, not a whole lot of flavor to it. I’d try something else next time. Hush puppies, definitely.

This was Uncle Wade’s baked beef short ribs. Fantastic, tender and succulent beef falling off the bone soaked in gravy, and it wasn’t very fatty at all.

Chicken fried steak. Oh, so pleasing, great flavors in the spices in the breading. This is just great comfort food to have.

You can see the collard greens and the black eyed peas. The collard greens were actually a bit on the sweet side, not bitter at all, a very pleasant surprise.

BBQ Pork Ribs. The sauce is surprisingly good, tangy and sweet. The ribs were very tender.

Chicken and Sausage Jambalaya, sauteed with rice. This is so easy and comfy, the spicy sausage has a nice kick to it and the chicken and rice provide a nice mellow background for the sausage.

Mac n’ Cheese!!! So good, very cheesy and chunky.

Aunt Kizzy’s has an old-fashioned sunday brunch buffet for $16.95 that I’d like to try. The food’s definitely up to par and I’d still like to try their fried chicken and their pork chops. Oh, so bad for you, but it all tastes so good. The restaurant was pretty empty on a weekday but they weren’t super attentive to us. Parking is real easy as long as you know which hidden corner the restaurant is in. Bring a few friends for that All-American sunday brunch!
