Mid Week Special: Swan Oyster Depot

San Francisco. Seafood. Enough Said.

I woke up hungry on a thursday. This place was open at 8am. So here we are, at the Oyster Depot for breakfast. I’m proud of myself for a great start of the day.

I love it when the menu’s on the wall. Rubber duckies line the shelf and Matt, a sucker for rubber duckies for some unknown reason, was visibly excited.

Long bar, no line at 9am. It’s a pretty cool place, a bunch of guys, apparently all family, runs the joint. It’s had a long history and it shows in the quality of the seafood. I had the pleasure of having a young man named Dean to be our server. You can see him in the back there shucking our oysters. The service was excellent, thanks, Dean!

We started with the house clam chowder. It’s on the thin, soupy side, but full of clam flavor. I immediately broke my low carb diet and started eating the bread with it.

I never had raw oyster before, (I KNOW, FOR CRYING OUTLOUD!!!) and was a little timid. But it turned out to be REALLY good, I like it with just a few drops of of lemon, as tabasco overwhelms the flavor. Succulent, fresh oyster, this was the bomb.

Fresh and tasty. I had to order a second plate.

I had a great time, partially because it was empty and we had no wait time, (I hear it gets crowded) and partially because I discovered raw oysters for the first time. It was fresh and very very tasty, the price isn’t bad, and the place was definitely hard core. Come by yourself or with a friend, it’s all stools at the bar so large parties won’t do too well. Man, I’m thinking about those oysters now… so hungry…

Dude, you’ve totally captured Swan Oyster Depot. Awesome job!!

I love this joint, it’s so family. This is the old world with no need to meet the new world. Get the best fresh oyster, crack them right and serve them to the customer. It doesn’t get better than this!!
