We’re back to Korean food today. Well, it might LOOK Korean, but it’s really German.
You see, In 1945, as the Allied Forces closed in on Berlin, Hitler and his mistress, Eva Braun, concocted the perfect escape plan. They would dress up as Koreans, smuggle themselves out of Germany, go to Los Angeles, and open up a Korean Restaurant specializing in octopus in Korea Town. And so, here we are, at Nazi Village.
Just kidding, Nakji means octopus. Nakzi sounds like Nakji. or something. Bottom line, this place is named Octopus Village. It really is Korean. Being named Octopus Village means — yes, it’s got some serious octopus.
No grill at your table this time, though. They cook it and bring it to you in a pot. There are several combinations to choose from, you need to order at least 2 dinner combos together for one pot, and we picked octopus and pork (bacon, really), medium spicy.
They give you a tofu salad to start and they also give you this cooling cucumber soup to take the edge off the from the spicy octopus pot. It’s quite useful and I found myself drinking it just to clear my palate. There are also a couple of side dishes here and there to spice things up a bit.
So here’s our main dish, a shallow metal pot filled with vegetables, vermicelli, squid and bacon.
It also came with this hot plate of butt kicking fried rice, the hot plate burns the rice on the bottom and gives the rice a crunchiness, very nice. I wish I could’ve had more of this.
The pot of squid and bacon is really delicious. Remember this is two orders, $30 a pot. Although it was really good, the low-carb dieter in me felt like they could’ve been a little more generous with the squid and meat. But I think if I was eating normally, the rice would’ve satisfied me.
We just had to go to the other end of the mall and try a blood sausage in the food court. The sausage itself didn’t have a strong flavor, but the shrimp powder and the spicy sauce they give you really kicks it up a notch. This was excellent.
