#4: Sushi Gen

Sushi Gen sets the standard for me in LA. This is top notch traditional sushi, there’s no Uramaki or any of that Californian fusion stuff here. If you know what you’re doing, by all means sit at the sushi bar, the chefs are excellent. Sit at the table and order special combinations if you’re just getting started, the chefs will pick out the fresh fish of the day for you and I’ve never been disappointed. The fish is always fresh and the yellowtail consistently the most impressive.
My absolute favorite is the Deluxe Sashimi Combination, pictured at the bottom.($25/$30)

It’s best to get there half an hour early before they open, any other time the wait could easily be over a half an hour.

    Hi Kevin,

Long time fan of your personal food blog, really excited to see you launch a dedicated food blog.

I really like the idea that you’re eating at 50 places this year. I think the audience would really benefit if you explained a bit more about your food philosphy (ie. type of food you like, why you like them and how you came to liking them). Maybe some of your own home brew recipes. I know I would love to hear more about the person behind the wonderful images!

Good luck, I’ll be visiting frequently!

    Anthony,
That is the Sashimi Deluxe Combination, I know, it’s spectacular and well worth the $25 / $30 (Lunch, dinner.)
